Reduce the file size of JPG, PNG and WebP images right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 25 MB each
About this image compressor
Large photos slow down websites and fill up email limits. This compressor re-encodes your images at the quality you choose, so you can get a much smaller file while keeping the picture looking good. You can also set a maximum width to scale very large photos down at the same time.
How to compress an image
- Click the box or drag your images into it.
- Pick the quality. Around 70 to 80 percent is a good balance for photos.
- Choose JPG or WebP as the output format and, if you like, a maximum width.
- Press Compress images and check the size shown for each file.
- Download the files one by one or use Download all.
Supported formats and limits
- Input: JPG, PNG and WebP, up to 25 MB per file.
- Output: JPG or WebP. PNG files with transparency get a white background when saved as JPG. WebP keeps transparency.
- Animated images are saved as a single still frame.
- Photos usually shrink the most. Screenshots and simple graphics may shrink less, and a file that is already well compressed can come out larger. When that happens the tool tells you so.
Privacy
Compression happens inside your browser using the canvas feature. Your images are not sent to our servers. Re-encoding also removes embedded metadata such as camera details and GPS location, which can be a useful privacy side effect.
Frequently asked questions
Will compression reduce image quality?
Yes, a little. JPG and WebP compression is lossy, which means some detail is discarded to save space. At moderate quality settings the difference is hard to see for most photos.
Why did my file get bigger?
If the original was already compressed very efficiently, or was a simple PNG, re-encoding at a high quality can increase the size. Try a lower quality, WebP, or a smaller maximum width.
Which format is smaller, JPG or WebP?
WebP is usually smaller at similar visual quality, and all current major browsers support it. JPG is the safest choice when you need to share files with older software.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. Add several files and they are processed one after another. Very large batches can use a lot of memory on a phone, so do them in smaller groups if the page slows down.
