GPA and CGPA Formula

GPA = Total quality points ÷ Total credit hours

Quality points are the grade points of a subject multiplied by its credit hours. CGPA uses the same formula, but over all your semesters together. Here is a short example. You earn A (4.0) in a 3-credit course, B (3.0) in a 3-credit course and B+ (3.33) in a 4-credit course. Quality points are 12 + 9 + 13.32 = 34.32, and credit hours are 10, so your GPA is 34.32 ÷ 10 = 3.43.

Grade Points Used by the Calculator

The calculator uses the common 4.0 scale below. Universities differ, so check your own grading table and use Custom points if your numbers are not the same.

GradeGrade points
A / A+4.00
A-3.67
B+3.33
B3.00
B-2.67
C+2.33
C2.00
C-1.67
D+1.33
D1.00
F0.00

CGPA to Percentage Converter

Open the CGPA ↔ Percentage tab if you already know your CGPA. The formula is Percentage = (CGPA ÷ Maximum CGPA) × 100, which on a 4.0 scale is CGPA × 25. For example, 3.2 gives 80%, 3.5 gives 87.5% and 2.8 gives 70%. To go the other way, use CGPA = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Maximum CGPA. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to our server.

Is the Result Official?

No. The calculator gives a fair estimate using the proportional method that most students use. Universities set their own grading policies, and some publish different conversion tables. When a university, employer, embassy or scholarship body asks for an official equivalent, ask your registrar or examination department for a conversion letter and attach that.

FAQs

How do I calculate GPA from my subjects?

Multiply each subject’s grade points by its credit hours, add the results, and divide by the total credit hours. The calculator does this when you add your subjects.

How do I calculate CGPA for several semesters?

Add a semester for each term and enter its subjects. The CGPA is the total quality points of all semesters divided by the total credit hours of all semesters. It is not the plain average of the semester GPAs unless every semester has the same credit hours.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

Divide your CGPA by the maximum of your scale and multiply by 100. On a 4.0 scale, a CGPA of 3.4 is 3.4 ÷ 4 × 100 = 85%.

What is 3.0 CGPA in percentage?

On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 CGPA is 75% using the proportional formula. Your university may show a different figure on an official letter.

Can I use a different grading scale?

Yes. Use Custom points for the grade points of each subject in the GPA calculator, or choose the 5.0, 10 point or Custom scale in the converter.
